SOCIAL HALL OPENED

PT. CHEVALIER FUNCTION A very successful gathering was held on Saturday evening, on the occasion of the official opening by Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Fletcher, M.P., of the new social hall fo,r the HallyburtonJohnstone Sports Club, Dignan Road, Point Chevalier. The function, took the form of a euchre party and dance, which was attended by about SO couples. Mr. F. Dyson, past-president of the bowling club, addressed the members and friends, introducing Mr. and Mrs Fletcher. In a speech Mr. Fletcher, when declaring the hall open! briefly traced the history of the club, and congratulated the bowling, croquet, and tennis club members on their enterprise for procuring a hall of their own. Mr. Johnston presented Mr. A. Xeil--son with a beautiful silver cup for champion of the bowling club for the 1925-9 season. Previously donated by Mr. Johnstone, the cup is to remain in the club for competition among its own members. Mr. T. Storey, as champion first-year player, received a leather bowls bag, and Mr. J. Clark, runner-up, a shaving companion. On behalf of the club members, Mr. Hallvburton-Johnstone was presented by Mr. AV. A. Phillips, with a framed enlargement of himself, also one to permanently hang in tile hall. Music was supplied by Mr. Ken. Gillams’s orchestra, and the euchre prizes were won by Mrs. Leckie, Mrs Quedley, Mr. Simpson, and Mr, Maddaford.
