At a well attended concert given by the Morrinsville Band on Monday night a presentation of two sitting-room chairs was made to Mr. L. Buchan, -who recently resigned from his position as bandmaster. Ampng the artists who contributed were Mr. Harold Strange (Te Aroha), Mrs. R. McQuarters (Waitoa), Mr. A. Blackman (Te Aroha). Mr. F. Jennings (pianoforte), and Miss M. Sweetapple. Mr. AV. Butler, of Morrinsville, who has been in ill health for several months, left by the Maui Pomare on Monday for a holiday at Norfolk Island. ... .The Morrinsville School Committee has decided to purchase a further two British typewriting machines. Misses Cussen, Parker and Hunt, of the Morrinsville School staff, have been granted sick leave since the holidays. - . . The new hall at Te Puninga was completed on Saturday and the official opening is to take place in a fortnight’s time. • • • The economic value of shelter trees is being realised more widely in Waikato districts and planting has been undertaken extensively during the off season. The largest undertaking in the Morrinsville district is that of Mr. J. J. Paterson, who has planted 5,P00 trees. An experiment which will be watched by Waikato farmers is the further planting of 5,000 boxthorn plants for hedges by the same farmer.
