EXPENSIVE NEWSPAPERS

MAN FINED FOR RECEIVING From Ojir Own Correspondent WAIHI, Tuesday. At the Waihi Magistrate’s Court today, before Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M., Albert Harden, a married man, was charged with having received newspapers valued at £2 17s 4d, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. Sergeant Cal well said defendant had, at one time, had the paper delivered to him through the regular channels, but the news agent had stopped delivery owing to Harden’s non-payment. Defendant afterward induced the runner to leave papers at his house without the news agent’s knowledge, giving the boy a couple of shillings on one or two occasions. Harden, who elected to be dealt with summarily, was fined £2 10s and ordered to make restitution to the amount of £2 17s 4d.
