NELSON’S CLOCK TOWER

PROTESTS MADE AGAINST ITS REMOVAL ALLEGED DAMAGE DOUBTED From Our Own Correspondent NELSON, Today. The executive committee of the Nelson Provincial Progress League, which met on Monday, supported the resolution of the City Council protesting against the removal of the post office clock tower. Mr. E. H. Thomson thought that the earthquake did not damage the tower, as he had been told on reliable authority that it had leaned out of the perpendicular for some time past. Mr. A. Gould, president of the league, said that as the clock in the tower had been bought by public subscription, he thought there was a distinct obligation on the part of the Government to keep it in a prominent part of the city. • The meeting agreed to support the council’s resolution of protest.
