NEW RAILWAY YARDS
MAYOR AGAINST PROPOSAL IN WELLINGTON FLAT LAND SHORTAGE Press Association WELLINGTON, Tuesday. An expression of his views on the proposed new railway station at Wellington has been made by the Mayor of Wellington, Mr. G. A. Troup, in a letter to the Minister of Railways. Mr. Troup asks the Minister whether, in view of the extraordinarily small area of flat level land available in the city, it is wise to utilise an area of 110 acres for railway yards. He says the question should be considered in the light of conditions 50 yeais hence, and asks where the city is to find the warehouse and business areas which the additional population will require. The Mayor suggests that the Railway Department provide only for a passenger yard and sufHcient goods shed accommodation to meet local requirements at Wellington, and con-I struct the main goods and marshal-1 ling yard by means of a reclamation j at the junction of the Hutt Road ! jyith the Petone Beach. 1
