WANGANUI FINALS EAGLET REGISTERS BEST TIME TRACKS STILL FAST (Special to THE SUN) WANGANUI, Today. Though tho weather was fine for training operations this morning, a cold piercing wind made conditions before breakfast rather unpleasant for those compelled to be out. However, after the interval the weather was ever so much better, and the prospects just before noon looked brighter for tomorrow. Though a light drizzle fell the tracks are in splendid order for this time of the year. Evidence of this fact was furnished by a couple of smart gallops. Tho best before breakfast was six furlongs by Eaglet and Air Laddie, on number one track, the pair covering the distance in 1.15 3-5, with the Guineas favourite going easily all the way. Considering the fact that the gallop was done from practically a stand, there is every reason for Eaglet’s performance to be acclaimed a good one. Maiden Three-year-old. Air Laddie’s time for the six was also proof that this maiden performer is every bit as good as he is claimed, for he was with Eaglet at the finish. Mr. Toxward won the Marangai Handicap last spring and it would be rather a coincidence if he could repeat the performance tomorrow. False Scent hit out well twice round, sprinting over the final stages. Tourist and Glenstar covered seven furlongs in 1.31 1-5, both going well. The first quarter took 26 3-5 and the half 51 2-5. It was quite a good display. Vertigern and Prince Humphrey covered the last five of six in 1.3 2-5. Vertigern is in good shape for early engagements. Shrewd and Cuticle hit out well in a pipe opener over five furlongs, and several others did useful work. My Own worked during the breakfast interval, and is in good fettle. The Fordell Team Fred Tilley’s team put in an appearance after breakfast. Cashier covered five furlongs in 1.4 1-5, the first furlong taking 13 2-5, and the quarter 25 3-5. The Marangai Handicap candidate looks bright and well. Rameses took 51 1-5 for half a mile, covering the first in 13 1-5 and the quarter in 25 2-5. High Falutin’ went over his first furlong in 12 4-5, two in 25 2-5, three in 37 4-5, and live in 1.3 3-5. Glenartncy took a tick longer over the same distance. Black Maire was sent six furlongs in 1.17 3-5, covering the first half-mile in 49 4-5. Laughing Prince was sent six furlongs, taking 1.3 2-5 for the last five of the journey. The Callaghan-Password filly covered two furlongs in 26 4-5, hitting out well. Koyal Lineage was not hurried over four furlongs in 54 1-5. Good things are expected of Watch Officer, the Chief Ruler-Watchful gelding, owned by Messrs. McLeod and Slater, and he should be prominent in the Debutante Stakes on Saturday. The Guineas candidate, My Own, looking really well, executed a brilliant effort over three furlongs, cutting out the distance in 36*. BALLOON SCRATCHED WANGANUI, Today. Balloon has been scratched for all his engagements at the Wanganui meeting tomorrow.
