HOME SETTLEMENT NEED
UNDEVELOPED LAND IN BRITISH ISLES WORKS COMMISSIONER’S PLEA (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (soiams vziiun) Reed. 11.10 a.m. LONDON, Tues. Colonisation of Britain was the text of an address by Mr. George Lansbury, First Commissioner of Works, delivered in the East End, in ’" which he declared men should be primarily trained for land careers at home, instead of the Dominions. He said despite all manner of subsidies, agriculture, which is still Britain’s greatest and most important industry, was going from bad to worse.
“We train men and send them thousands of miles away to the Dominions, while outside the training centres miles upon miles of the best land in the world cry aloud for cultivation,” he said.
