MYSTERY SHIP SEEN

STRANGE APPEARANCES OFF NORTH AUSTRALIA MISSION SUSPECTED SYDNEY, Monday. A woman missionary at Mapoon, on the Gulf of Carpentaria, Mrs. MacCormick, ai-rived in Sydney today. She expressed surprise that the Federal Government has not had the mystery cleared up of a strange ship which, she says, makes periodical appearances on the coast of northern Australia. Various rumours are current as to the ship’s purpose, which is generally regarded as nefarious. Once the sloop Geranium searched the coast and reported that she had sighted an unknown craft, which escaped. Later the Protector of Aborigines at Thursday Island investigated. He discovered nothing except the grave of a Malayan, who had not long been buried.
