GENERAL J. M. GORDON DEAD
(Australian and V.Z. Press Association) J (United Service) LONDON, Sunday. The death has occurred of MajorGeneral Joseph Maria Gordon, formerly Chief of the Australian General Staff. Major-General Joseph Maria Gordon was born in 1556, and after leaving Beaumont College joined the Royal Artillery‘in 1876. He raised the Permanent Artillery in South Australia. ISS2. He served in the Boer War and was Commandant in Victoria. 1902-5, and New South Wales, 1905-12. before becoming Chief of the Comonwealth General Staff. He commanded a brigade in the Great War.
