The Care of the Car Radiator Cap Leaks If the radiator cap leaks constantly and excessively, and it has been ascertained that the rubber wa her is in good condition, the chances are that the overflow pipe is clogged, so that the water has no outlet except round the radiator cap. It is, of course, easy enough to run a wire through the overflow pipe to clear it. Test Oil Filter The oil Alter should be tested now and then to insure that foreign matter is being removed from the motor oil. The old-style filter is equipped with a glass gauge, and a stream of oil should be running j through the tube when the motor is running if the Alter is working. On the new-type filters this testing ! operation is made by opening the I petcock or removing the pipe plug on top of the filter. If oil runs out the J filter is operating satisfactorily. Save the Battery To save the battery when starting | your car disengage the clutch. By doing tb.ie you will save the starter j the work of turning over the trans- | mission gears. Also pull out the j choke button before pressing the starter button in order to make every movement of the starter's ■ work count. Efficiency of Screen Wiper Owing to wear on the rubber squeegee, a hand operated screen wiper loses its efficiency as time goes on, till in the end it is of no iso whatever. The usual thing done by most motorists is to renew the rubber, but this is not always necessary. Examination of the wiper will show that the rubbing arm is pivoted at its centre to a shorter arm of more or less springiness, which in turn is attached to the spindle which passes through the windscreen frame. If the wiper is removed, this short arm may be bent slightly so that when the device is replaced the wiping arm will bear with greater force against the glass, and its efficiency will be restored.
