WOMEN’S AUXILIARY Concern at the association of Alaori girls with Asiatics, and sympathy with the inquiry now being made into these conditions, was expressed by the Aletliodist AVomen’s Alissionary Auxiliary at the annual meeting yesterday afternoon. The resolution is to be forwarded to Dr. T. J. Hughes, medical officer of health, who is presiding over the committee of inquiry riow sitting'in Auckland, j The meeting, held in the Pitt Street j Methodist Schoolroom, was largely attended. Aliss Somerville presided and | associated with her were Airs. FI. E. | Pacey, a past-president, who has just returned from England, and the Rev. AV. A. Sinclair, general secretary of the Aletliodist Alissions’ Society. The annual report revealed satisfactory progress during the year, t lie auxiliary membership now standing at COO. Officers for the ensuing • year were elected as under: —President, Aliss Somerville; vice-presidents, Alesdames Stevens, Coley, Sinclair, Smethurst and Alisses Rishworth, Carr and J. Buttle; secretary, Airs. J. J. Hills. Airs. J. Dellow was elected a life member. Addressing the meeting, the Rev. AV. A. Sinclair endeavoured to dispel the impression, which he said had gained credence in New Zealand, that the Solomon Island girls were of an inferior type to the boys. He asserted | that this was not so. He would not be satisfied, he said, until a training school for girls was established in the Islands. The Rev. Air. Sinclair also referred to the medical work in the Solomons, illustrating this by saying that on the island of Choiseul, 1,079 natives had been medically treated in three months. A cordial welcome was extended to Airs. H. E. Pacey.
