SURREY AT LONDON. —The Federal Line steamer Surrey is reported to have reached London from New Zealand on Sunday. She was dispatched from Wellington on August 1. KENT AT LIVERPOOL. —The Federal Line steamer Kent, which sailed from Auckland for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow, and Liverpool on July 19, is reported to have reached Liverpool last Saturday. KARAMEA'S PROGRAMME. —Now completing her discharge of London cargo at Napier, the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s motor-ship Karamea commences loading there, and later fills up at Timaru, thence Port Chalmers, Now Plymouth, Wanganui, Wellington and Auckland. She is due here early in October, and is scheduled to leave finally from this port on October 5 for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool via Panama. MAUI* POMARE DEP A RTS. —The Government motor-ship Maui ‘Poraare, which left Auckland last evening for Norfolk Island, took the following passengers:—Mr. Hamilton, Mrs. Hamilton, Mr. D. P. PORT DUNEDIN AT. LONDON.— Cabled news has been received by the C. and D. Line that the Port Dunedin arrived at London on Friday from Wellington. She left there on August 2. CARGO FROM NEW YORK. —The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the following vessels have been engaged by the A. and A. Line to leave New York for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin;—Keelung, on September 17; City of Mobile, on September 30; Min, on October 12; Armadale, on November 2; Australind, on November 30. MAKURA FROM SYDNEY. — The Union Company’s intercolonial passenger steamer Makura, arived at Auckland this morning from Sydney, and later berthed at the Queen’s Wharf to land her passengers, mails and cargo. The vessel left Sydney at 3 p.m. last Friday and experienced a fair-weather passage across the Tasman Sea. The following passengers arrived by the vessel:— First-class.—Mesdames G. Bell, W. Burt, E. The Makura is scheduled to leave Auckland at 3 o’clock on Friday afternoon on her return trip to Sydney. ROTORUA’S VOYAGE —The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rotorua arrived at Wellington at 1 o’clock yesterday morning from London and Southampton, via the Panama route. After loading at London, the Rotorua left there on the afternoon of August 1 and arrived at Southampton at noon on August 2. Passengers and mails were taken aboard, and the ship sailed again at 4.30 p.m. on that date. Fine and warm weather marked the run to Curacao, where the vessel arrived on the afternoon of August 14. While the liner took in oil fuel the passengers had a run ashore. The voyage was resumed on the following morning, and the Rotorua arrived at Cristobal on the morning of August 17. The Panama Canal was negotiated without delay, and the vessel arrived at Balboa at 2 p.m. on the same date. Passengers were able to go ashore while more oil fuel was taken in. The ship left Balboa at 11 p.m. on August 17, and met with cool weather and strong trade winds with moderate seas, until arrival off Pitcairn Island at 1 p.m. on August 28. Three boat-loads of islanders came aboard to barter and exchange fruit and curios. The Rotorua stood on her course again at 2.30 p.m., and there was no change in the weather until early last Thursday morning, when a westerly gale was encountered, with high seas and rain squalls. The ship’s engines were slowed down, but on Saturday morning fine weather returned with a moderate westerly wind until arrival. At 7.40 p.m. on Thursday, Mr. A. D. Riley, of Wellington, who was returning from England, succumbed to a heart attack. The body was buried at sea on the following morning with customary rites. MU REX DEPARTS. —The Shell Company’s chartered tanker Murex left Auckland this morning for Wellington, where she completes her discharge of bulk oil. Later she returns to Borneo to load again.
OAKBANK WITH ASPHALT. —The Weir motor-ship Oakbank, en route from Tampico to New Zealand with a full cargo of asphaltum, left Panama on August 27. Spedding, Limited, will be agent at Auckland.
AORANGI SAILS 10 P.M. —ln continuation of her voyage from Vancouver and way ports, the Union Company’s R.M.M.S. Aorangi is to leave Auckland at ten o’clock this evening for Sydney, where she is due on Saturday.
MAUNGANUI FROM ’FRISCO. —Advice received by the local office of the Union Company states that the R.M.S. Maunganui left San Francisco at 2.15 p.m. last Wednesday, via Papeete and Rarotonga, for Wellington and Sydney. She is expected at Wellington on September 23. POOLTA WITH TIMBER. —The local office of the Union Company advises that the steamer Poolta, from Grafton and Port Stephens, leaves Newcastle today with timber for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Bluff. She is due here next Monday. TAINUI AT NAPIER. —Due at Napier today from Lyttelton, the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s liner Tainui later proceeds to Wellington, where she completes her loading, and finally departs on September 18 for Southampton and London, via Panama. MAHENO AT WELLINGTON. —Telegraphic advice states that the intercolonial passenger steamer Maheno arrived at Wellington at 5.45 o’clock this morning from Sydney. She leaves Wellington at noon on Friday on her return trip to Sydney. TAHITI FOR ’FRISCO. —Advice has been received by the local office of the Union Company that the R.M.S. Tahiti, which arrived at 'Wellington yesterday from Sydney, leaves at three o’clock this afternoon for Rarotonga, Papeete. and San Francisco. HORORATA FOR AMERICA.— Now loading at Wellington, the New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Hororata is expected at Auckland next Monday to fill up for America and England. She is scheduled to leave this port finallv on September 21 for New York, Boston. Halifax, and London, via Panama. NORTHUMBERLAND TO COMPLETE. —Leaving Napier this evening for Auckland, the Federal steamer Northumberland is due at Auckland on Thursdav morning to complete her loading unde'r the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company. She is scheduled to leave this port on Wednesday, September IS. for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow, and Liverpool, via Panama.
PORT MELBOURNE AT SUVA. —The Commonwealth and Dominion Lint steamer Port Melbourne arrived at Suva from London yesterday with a record cargo of 4,700 tons of general merchandise for Fiji, states a cable message received. The vessel a’ o has a cargo for discharge at Auckland and port Chalmers. She is due at Auckland on September. IS. After completion of dis*a2?e. at ■ Port Chalmers she will load at that Port as well as at Timaru, Lyttelton, New Plymouth. Auckland, Gisborne, Napier and Wellington. Her loading dates at Auckland are October 11 a , nd October 12. She is to be dispatched from 'Wellington for London via Montevideo, on October 19. The Farmers Co-operative Auctioneering Company are the local agents.
CANADIAN CHALLENGER IN PORT. —Tne Canadian National Steamships vessel Canadian Challenger arrived in the stream from Montreal at about 930 o clock this morning, and later berthed at Prince s Wharf. The vessel has a cargo of motor-cars and general Eastern Canadian merchandise, which she loaded Tsln n7r» ntre « 1 ~a nd Sydne >' (Cape Breton Hand). Sydney was cleared for Auckland on July 31, and the Canadian Challenger made a direct passage via the Panama Canal, which she cleared on August 11. Good weather was experienced until five days ago, when she encountered a strong north-easterly* gale and later strong westerly head winds, high seas, and a heavy swell. These conditions held for three days Apart from her general cargo, the Canadian Challenger brought out an Ayrshire bull and a Yorkshire pig for breeding purposes. They will be unloaded at Wellington.
