In the Market Place

APPLE RATES HIGH ORANGES SELL FREELY Apples are improving in demand, and the prices for several lines show a firming tendency. The improvement has been indicated by the sound market for some time past. Pears are attracting slow to medium bidding. Island oranges, particularly those of medium size, continue to sell freely. Small lemons and Poorman oranges are on extremely dull markets. Bananas Dearer First grade, repack bananas show a rise 'in price. The demand is firm. Californian grapes in barrels were bought up by today, but another supply is expected to be placed on the market ! almost immediately. The declining value of Southern potatoes is the feature of the vegetable auction. Before this week, high prices ruled for comparatively poor quality offerings. Cabbage, cauliflowers, kumeras and swedes are heavily supplied. Quotations: FRUIT Lemons.—No. 1,9 s to 12s 6d; No. 2 and medium, 4s to 75..
