LIQUOR FOR MAORI
TAXI-DRIVER IN COURT BUT MAORI IS FINED From Our Oicn Correspondent WHANG ARE I, Today. At the Whangarei Alagistrate’s Court yesterday, before Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M., George William. Brott was charged with procuring liquor for a Maori, Marsh. Mahunga. In evidence Atahunga said he did not know to whom he gave the money to get a bottle of whisky. He did not think it was the accused; in fact, he admitted he was too ‘‘stunned.” Accordingly Brott was discharged and Mahunga, much to the amusement of the court and the surprise of the Maori, was charged with aiding and abetting in committing an. offence by giving some person money to procure liquor for him. He pleaded guilty and was convicted and fined £3, with costs 10s.
