MR. WILLIAM COOPER The death has occurred of Mr. William Cooper at the age of 70. Bom in Gloucester. England, Mr. Cooper came to New Zealand about 17 years ago and bought a farm at Gate Pa, where he has liv’ed since. He is survived by his widow, five sons and three daughters.

MISS M. A. STRACHAN Mr. S. Strachan, editor of the “Westport News,” has received cable advice of the death of his sister. Miss M. A. Strachan. of Montrose, Scotland. She was the oldest daughter of the late Mr. James Strachan, designer and builder, of Montrose. She spent most of her life in New Zealand as a member of the teaching profession, retiring on superannuation about 12 years ago. She has since travelled extensively on the Continent, and gave illustrated lectures on her travels, and on New Zealand. MR. J. CRUICKSHANK The death of Mr. John Cruickshank occurred yesterday at the Auckland Infirmary at the age of 92. Born in Birmingham, England, he went to Australia with his parents at the age of ten, and gained considerable farming experience in Victoria. In 1875 he arrived at Port Chalmers and secured a position as manager of Mr. ; Edward Menlove's Queen Plat station jat Nguparu, North Otago. Later lie farmed on his own account |at Herbert, near Oamaru, but rerired | some years ago. He came to Auckland in 1925. j He is survived by one son. The funeral takes place today. MRS. M. A. PILKINGTON i One of Auckland’s oldest residents* 1 and probably the oldest Aucklander to have actually lived in Queen StreeL ; in the “forties,” Mrs. Mary Ann Pilkington. of 86 Symonds Street, died yes- ! terday at the age of 93. She was in 1 excellent health until a few weeks ago, ! when she fell and received a broken I rib. i The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John ; Taylor, Mrs. Pilkington was born in Perth, Scotland, in 1836. Upon the i death of her father she came to New Zealand at the age of 13 years, with her mother and settled in Queen Street, where Mrs. Taylor opened a shop on the site now' occupied by Smeetons, Ltd. At the ago of 26 she married Mr. John Pilkington, an Auckland builder, who was drowned at Mahurangi some 53 years ago. Mrs. Pilkington has lived at 86 Symonds Street, which is one of the oldest houses there, for the past 44 years. She is survived by two sons. The funeral took place this afternoon.
