BLOCK OF SHOPS ABLAZE
DAMAGE AT CAMBRIDGE BRIGADE’S GOOD SAVE .(From Our Own Correspondent) CAMBRIDGE, Today. At 5.45 this morning fire broke out in Victoria Street, in a block of two-storeyed concrete shops owned by Mrs. Watson, of Hamilton. The blaze started in the portion occupied by Mrs. Howden, milliner and draper, whicli was badly gutted, practically everything being destroyed. The brigade, working excellently, prevented the fire from spreading through into a men’s outfitting shop in the same building, occupied by Mr Chas. Waghorne. The blaze damaged the lower storey only. An electric heater left on all night is said to have caused the fire. Mrs. Hovvden’s stock was insured for £450 with the South British Insurance Company. The cover on the building is not available.
