RECORD BUILDING

TWO MEN’S HERCULEAN TASK Six weeks was the time estimated as necessary, under ordinary conditions, for the construction of a new private projection theatre needed at the Elstree film studios of British International Pictures. The studio manager, Mr. J. A. Thorpe, offered British and Overseas Construction Company, who were undertaking the work, a bonus of 20 per cent, if this small theatre could be completed in a fortnight. The work was completed in nine days. Overseers and workmen alike put their backs into the task. One bricklayer and bis mate laid 10,000 bricks in 32 working hours, a record of which the whole studio was as proud as the two workmen.
