MORRINSVILLE NOTES

A noticeable feature of the opening of a new dairying season in the Morrinsville district has been the high but-ter-fat test. This is attributed to tne dry spring weather, and the practise of feeding with ensilage. It is stated that ensilage feeding gives very rich milk at this time of the year without imparting any taint, as is the case with turnips. Tho high butter-fat content is in marked contrast to the position 12 months ago, when the weather was wet and tests were low. A party of the Morrinsville Boy Scouts paid a visit to Te Aroha on Wednesday, accompanied by the Scoutmaster, Mr. C. N. Garlick. An enjoy - able day was spent, the Scouts climbing to the top of the mountain. The total journey, including a stop of 20 minutes for lunch, occupied only three hours. Cabinet has approved of a grant for tho erection of a school residence at Tatuanui. With the object of arousing interest in aviation, the Auckland Aero Club proposes giving practical demonstrations in country centres. Morrinsville has been included on the itinerary, and at least two airplanes will visit the town on October 3, arriving at 9.30 a.m. and leaving again at noon.

Extensive works in the Tauhei Drainage Board’s area, for which a loan of £4,900 was raised, have now been completed. The total length of drains made or repaired was 30 miles. All the work was done by contract.
