AT NEARLY SIX MILES A MINUTE, the race for the Schneider Cup will be contested over the Solent this afternoon (Sunday morning by New Zealand time). The picture shows two Supermarine S 5 machines, one of which, piloted by Flight-Lieutenant S. N. Webster, won the last contest at a speed of 281.49 m.p.h. Flight-Lieutenant D’Arcy Greig (left) is flying one of these speedy monoplanes in today’s contest, and is regarded by experts as a likely winner. Flight-Lieutenant D. F. W. Atcherley (right) is flying an S 6 machine. It was in one of these that he recently made a new air record by flying at 350 m.p.h.
