OPENINGS FOR COMPOSERS
The evolution of talking pictures to the point where they include specially written musical scores to synchronise with the theme of the picture has opened a new field up for the lyricist and composer. One of the most recent composers to find his way into the ranks of cinematic servitude is Nacio Herb Brown, originator of the internationally popular tune, “The Doll Dance,” who is now under contract to Metro-Gold wyn-Mayer. Brown prepared the musical score for “The Broadway Melody,” Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's all-talking, singing and dancing dramatic extravaganza, and was responsible for the haunting lyrics of “You Were Meant For Me," “Love Boat” and “The Broadwav Melody.” John Stuart, who is the juvenile lead in “Atlantic,” has grown his first moustache for the part. Ellaline Terriss and Madeline Carrol have been added to the already strong cast, which includes Donald Calthrop and John Longden.
