ONE TREE HILL

FLAT RATE FARES PROPOSED FORMATION OF BOROUGH It was proposed, at the meeting- of tho One Tree Hill Road Board last evening, over which Mr. Hardwicke presided, that a universal flat rate fare of 3d be charged on all services controlled by the Auckland Transport Board. Mr. J. G. Clark said he was convinced that if the flat rate fare system were adopted, it would benefit the suburbs and Transport Board materially. He did not think any harm would be done if the Mayor of Mount Eden were asked to call a meeting to confer with the Transport Board upon the subject. Mr. J. Wood, a member of the Transport Board, opposed the motion, on tho grounds that the trams would find it impossible to pay, as the increase of passengers would be small. The Transport Board would not adopt the measure at the present time. A sufficient number of ratepayers’ signatures having been secured, it was decided to forward a petition to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. I J . A. do la Pcrrelle, with the object of raising the Road Board to the status of a Borough Council.^ Tho suggestion that white lines, for the purpose of safely directing traffic should replace street domes, which are at present in use, was discussed. It was decided to take no definite action until tho traffic inspector reported upon the subject. The building inspector s report showed that 3 2 permits, amounting to £6,255, had been issued during the past fortnight. The number of permits issued since January were 3 76. to a total value of £ 7 0,02 5
