FLED FROM WORK

SEAMAN GAOLED FOR VAGRANCY DETECTIVES’ TIME WASTED It is the considered opinion of Auckland detectives that Walter Henry Cole does not like work. Twice they have found him work on ships leaving New Zealand and twice he has failed to appear at sailing time. rjOLE, a labourer, aged 22, pleaded guilty at the Police Court this morning to being idle and disorderly having Insufficient lawful means of support. “Cole is a seaman who has been here for some months,” said ChiefDetective Hammond. “The police have tried to find him work and each time, after signing the articles, he has at the last moment refused to go on board. He was up on a vagrancy charge last February, but was given a chance.” Sentence of one month’s imprisonment was imposed.
