NEW DAM FOR OTAGO
IRRIGATION WORK PLANNED SUPPLEMENTARY SYSTEM Press Association DUNEDIN, Today. The . irrigation plants in the Ida Valley and Galloway Flat areas are gradually becoming inadequate, and to cope with the situation the Government has authorised tlie construction of a new dam at Poolburn, the water from which will be supplementary to tho Manorburn dam supply. The new dam, which will be of the concrete arch type, will be 100 feet high and 4SO feet long at the crest, and will contain approximately 14,000 cubic vards of concrete. The local office of the Public Works Department has received instructions to proceed with the work. Tlie undertaking should assist considerably in relieving unemployment. A limited number of men will bo engaged at first, but as additional plant reaches the scene the number will bo increased until about 100 will be employed.
