The question or wharfage on fish was discussed at the meeting of the lhames Harbour Board yesterday. The secretary, Mr. J. M. Fox, stated that he had received replies from other harbour boards regarding this due—five boards charged on fish imports, seven on exports, while IS boards made no charge on imports, and 16 boards none on exports. Three boards had not replied. The question was referred to a committee to deal with. The completion of the harbour improvement scheme still lies in abeyance. £ s. d. is the retarding clement. The Public Works Department has applied fur and has been supplied with a detailed estimate of the dredging necessary to complete the scheme. The chairman, Mr. 11. Lowe, said he interviewed tlio Hon. J. G. Cobbe on the question. Mr. Cobbe had said he would give the question his attention as soon as his department had furnished him with the report. The licences of the Koval Mail and Star and Garter Hotels, of Coromandel, which were adjourned at the annual meeting of the Thames Licensing Committee, were granted at the quarterly meeting of the committee today. The police reported that the houses had been put into a satisfactory condition. The Tairua Hotel was similarly dealt with. The police raised no objection to the granting of the licence to Mr. W. H. Pearson, of the Puriri Hotel, whose application for renewal had been deferred. The Waiwawa Hotel renewal was adjourned to the December meeting, pending certain repairs being carried out, * * * Mr. J. E. Anderson, who for the past three years has been engineer to the Thames Borough Council, was the recipient of a handsome travelling rug from the staff of the borough. The Mayor. Mr. W. Bongard, made the presentation. Mr Anderson leaves Thames to join up with the Public Works Department at Stratford.
