WOMAN’S DEATH
INQUEST AT ONEHUNGA The district coroner, Mr. D. A. Sutherland, held an inquest in the Onehunga courthouse this morning on the-death of Daisy Gertrude Partridge, a widow, aged 43, of Inkerman Street, Onehunga, who died suddenly early yesterday morning. Mary Mildred Partridge, aged 16. daughter of deceased, deposed that she last saw her mother alive at 4.45 a.m. yesterday. She was then in bed with her and was awakened by her mother making a choking noise. Failing to get deceased to speak, she aroused a neighbour, who sent for Dr. Kirkwood. Her mother had not complained of ill-health, but had suffered for many years from headaches and rheumatism. Mrs. Healey, a neighbour, said she saw deceased in her usual health on Tuesday evening. She suffered from headaches and frequently stayed in bed for a day. 'When aroused by Miss Partridge, she saw deceased lying dead in bed. Dr. James Kirkwood said he saw deceased on Wednesday morning shortly before live o’clock. She was then dead, but the body was still warm. In company with Dr. Bevan Brown, he held a post-mortem examination, and found congestion of both lungs. The heart 'was dilated, showing signs of degeneration, and all the organs were more or less congested and inflamed. In his opinion the direct cause of death was syncope, due to weakness of the heart muscles, complicated by a mild form of gastro-enteritis. A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned.
