NOTTS THE CHAMPION

Tuesday. j Nottinghamshire won the county j cricket championship for the first ! time since 1907. Lancashire was | runner-up, and Yorkshire third. Sussex had a sensational last- j minute win over Y'orkshire, making j the latter third instead of second, j which position Lancashire occupies, \ though it has only the same points, i owing to its greater number of out- j right victories. Gloucester precedes j Sussex for fourth place by virtue of • the same reason. Last-round results as under: Surrey v. Middlesex. —Surrey, first, 294 (Wilson not out 69); second, 299 for five, declared (Gregory not out 114, Hobbs 111). Middlesex, first, 310 (Hendren 100); second, 125 for four (Gover four for 51). Northamptonshire.— Glamorgan, first, 234; second, 130 for five. Northants, first, 197. Glamorgan won on the first innings. The rain which on Saturday looked like endangering Nottingham’s grip on the championship final game, served it the other way today, preventing a finish. With the exception of Duleepsinliji, the season has produced no new batsmen; but there are better prospects in the bowling, notably the googly bowder, Robins, the spinner Goddard, and the left-hand express Voce, all of whom are regarded as certain to confront the Australians in the 1930 tests. Each county plays 2S games to complete the season’s programme. The final positions are as follow:
