STRIBLING BEATS COOK AUSTRALIAN TAKES GREAT PUNISHMENT (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) NEW YORK, Monday. In a boxing contest at Macon, Georgia, today, Young Stribling defeated George Cook, the Australian, on a technical knock-out in the eighth round. There were 5,000 spectators. Stribling entered the ring weighing IS2ld. and Cook lS6lb. The first round was mostly in Stribling's favour, Cook receiving several blows to the head and being on the ropes at the bell. In round two both men fought hard, but no serious blows were landed. Stribling had the best of the third round with rights and lefts to the face. In round four both men seemed to be holding back, but Stribling landed two heavy rights to the face. Stribling rushed Cook in the next round and had him hanging on the ropes Cook appeared to be tiring. In the sixth round Cook landed a heavy left to Stribling’s jaw. In round seven Stribling’s right to the jaw sent Cook down for the count of four. Then Stribling punished the Australian severely.
