A SOLID TAX
JjAST year the Otahuhu Trotting Club assisted the Government exchequer to the extent of £11,132 7s as a result of the varinrr, imposed on the sport provided by the club. At the spring fixture the taxation reached £5,267 13s Id, while at the summer carnival it totalled £5,864 13s 11d. With the exception of about £9OO on the stakes and general charges, the balance is accumulated from the “tote” returns, which is a striking illustration of what speculators pay for the privilege of backing their fancy.
