Marten Meeting Opens in Sunshine LUCRE WINS TRIAL (From Our Oicn Correspondent J MART ON, Today. The weather was fine but cold for the opening day of the Mar ton Racing Club’s spring meeting. The attendance was fair and the going soft. Results: TRIAL PLATE Of £100; 6 furlongs, 27 yards. 2 LUCRE, 8.7 1 6—KOTAHI EKA. 8.7 2 3 AUSTERITY, 8.7 S Scratched: False Scent, Royal Mission, Streamer, Auctioneer, Juggle, WhenuaPotoaform. Won by three lengths, with thi-ee between second and third. Time, Equitant was a hot favourite for the Trial Plate. Glenison, Valma, Equitant, Lucre and Parko were first to move, Glenison being well clear nearing the straight, but Lucre quickly ran to the front and won very easily from Kotaki Eka, who was under pressure to keep off Austerity, who came from a long way back. Guard of Honour and Equitant were next. HACK HURDLES Of £130; li miles. 5 HARD GOLD. 9.0 1 3—LADY GAY, 9.13 2 6 All WERA, 9.5 3 Scratched.—Royal Damon, Inferno, Gun Area. Won by five lengths, with one and a-half lengths between second and third. Time, 2.59 2-5. Glena Bay was favourite for the Flack Hurdles. Over the early portion of the journey Powhiri and Star Shell were making the pace from Royal Elm, Lady Gay and Pesliwa, but going into the back Ah Wera worked into the van from Hard Gold, Lady Gay, Glena Bay, Peshwa and Ivingi Pita. Approaching the turn Hard Gold ran to the front to show the way over the final fence, the Foxton representative going on to win with ease by eight lengths from Lady Gay, who came again to beat Ah "Wera home by a couple of lengths. San Fera was fourth, with Peshwa ahead of Glena Bay, Kingi Pita and Royal Elm. SPRING HACK Of £125; 1 mile 137 yards 2 ROYAL BLACK, 8.9 1 S—CALITHE, 7.2 2 3 FINE ACRE, 5.2 3 Scr.: Bold Front, Elysianor, Curtsey. Won by three lengths, with one and ahalf lengths between second and third. Time, 1.50 1-5.
