YOUTH STEALS £lO
WHILE FRIEND HAS A BATH YEAR’S PROBATION GRANTED Press Association TE KUITI, Today. At the Te Kuiti Police Court today a young man. aged IS, appeared on remand charged with the theft of £lO on August 26 from Mr. Clyde Campbell, a commercial traveller. Accused stayed at the Grand Hotel and became acquainted with Campbell. On Saturadv night accused motored to Arapuni with Campbell and on the following morning, while Campbell was having a bath, accused took two £-5 notes from his clothing. When arrested he had £4 7s 3d in his possession. He had been twelve months in the permonent military forces and was now unemployed. He had a revolver which he said was given him by his brother-in-law in Auckland. He had no previous convictions.
Accused admitted the theft and said drink, which he had taken for the first time, was responsible for his act. He was admitted to 12 months’ probation and fined the balance of the money stolen.
