LARGER WICKET'S EFFECT
MORE DEFINITE RESULTS IN COUNTY GAMES REVIEW OF THE SEASON (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Monday. Reviewing the county cricket season, Mr. Syd Southerton says he considers the larger wickets have been responsible for a larger proportion of definite results. The bowlers on the whole howled more regularly at the stumps. The increased size of stumps did not affect really first-class batsmen, but the lesser lights found their abilities somewhat curtailed. Many prominent cricketers desired that the larger wickets should remain. Hobbs, Sandham, Rhodes, Sutcliffe and Leyland all favoured them; but most of these did not favour the new leg-before rifle. Many bowlers favoured it; but Mr. Southerton thought the objections to the rule would outweigh its supposed benefits. He gathered that the majority of cricketers thought likewise. AFRICAN CRICKETERS ANOTHER DRAWN GAME (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United. Service) Reed. 9.20 a.m. LONDON, Monday. South Africa, in its match against Mr. J. Colin’s XI., made 275 (Morkel 65. Dalton 59). Colin’s XI. made 252 (Nicholas 50, Morkel seven for 61). The match was drawn.
