CITY’S SLUM HOUSES
REMOVAL URGED BY
CR. F. N. BARTRAM
There are many houses in all parts of the city which have been condemned for a number of years and it is time they were pulled down, says Cr. F. N. Ea»*tram. He lias lodged a notice of motion in this connection, to be moved at the next meeting of the City Council ou September 12. Mr. Bart ram will move: “That this council take immediate steps to clean up all the slums of the city, first, by the demolition —irrespective of ownership —of those buildings which have long since been condemned by the health authorities as unfit for human habitation. Men who are unemployed are to be put on to do the job right away. Mr. Bartram urges secondly that by-laws now existing in regard to proper sanitation shall be enforced, and others enacted if necessary. Thirdly, the mover proposes that it be the recommendation to the TownPlanning Committee that without delay a scheme be evolved to cope permanently with slum areas. He suggests also that the council should give such a scheme precedence over all other work it has in view'.
