OVER 100 M.P.H. 500 C.C. MACHINES !, ; < The most coveted world’s records i < are those o£ one hour and two hours ! , in the 500 c.c. class. It is only a few mouths since 500 ! c.c. machines succeeded in covering 200 miles in two hours, yet this record has now been broken by A. Den- < ley. riding a 500 c.c. A.J.S. He clocked : 202.52 miles in two hours, which is! i an average of 101.26 m.p.h., and also , annexed the one-hour record, at the phenomenally high speed of 104.51 ' m.p.h. Two other records gained by 1 him at the same time were the 100 miles record and the 200 miles re- l cord, and the whole of these not only ( constitute records for the 500 c.c. - class, but for 750 and 1,000 c.c. classes , as well. Altogether, Denley broke 12 records, 1 of which the four mentioned above are : the most outstanding. 1 These successes were achieved recently at the Montlehery track, m France. A few days previously, C. i' W. Hough and A. Denley, also on a \ 500 c.c. A.J.S. machine, broke nine \ , world's records, among the most im- 1 : portant of which are the seven-hour record, at 82.03 m.p.h., and eight-hour record at 56.16 m.p.h., and 1,000 kilometers at 86.34 m.p.h. As in the one and two-hour records, these also constitute records for the 750 c.c. and 1,000 c.c. classes. SUNBEAM RACER Because of the many Sunbeam J motor-cycle successes on road circuits | and tracks in England and the Con-1 tineut, the information from the Sup-1 beam factory that a. special dirt tra.'tk machine has been constructed, should i interest New Z-'alan* motor-cyclists. This newcomer will arrive here in a few week’s time. Its features include, rocker gear and push rods enclosed anti running in oil; inlet port and carburettor specially arranged to give extraordinary acceleration; exhaust port brought out on the right-hand side of the machine, ihus enabling the rider to lay hi 3 machine over to a greater extent when cornering; dry sump lubrication; and the motor is specially designed for petrol-benzol mixture. A large gauze funnel is fitted to the carburettor, to prevent cinders entering, and an unusual feature is the special type fork, which may be locked for certain tracks. Adjustable foot rests, universal knee hook, totally enclosed front chain and clutch running in oil, and easily changed sprockets are other details. The fact that the back chain is ! c the right-hand side of the machine, i where it is protected from cinders, will make a special appeal to speed- 1 men.
