LUMINOUS TRAM POLES
VOVEL SUGGESTION FROM MOTORISTS MINIMISING DANGER RISK That tramway poles should be painted with a luminous substance was a proposal put before the Transport Board this morning by the Auckland Automobile Association. At a recent meeting the association resolved: "That owing to the Increasing number of fatal and other accidents caused by ceutre-poles the board be asked to proceed immediately with their removal and until the work Is completed all poles that are sow in the centre of the road should at once be painted with a luminous Mint to the height of about six feet from the ground.” On the motion of the chairman, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, the board agreed lo give effect to the proposal as far M practicable. “The board does not accept the statement that tram tentre-poles cause accidents,” remarked Mr. Allum, drily. Mr. B. H. Potter thought the board might to admit the poles were a very great danger and the board should five support to the request. He suglasted the management be asked to facilitate removal of the poles. The fact that the poles occupied the centre of the road was very dangerous, and motor-cars had been jammed against ill* poles.
