TE KUITI SHOWGROUNDS
MOVE FOR NEW SITE (From Our Own Correspondent) TE KUITI, Monday. The need for a show and sports ground at Te Kuiti was stressed by a number of speakers at the annual meeting of the King Country Central Agricultural and Pastoral Association held on Saturday evening. Mr. W. J. Tappen presided. Mr. J. W. Cochrane said that, until the association had a ground in a central position in the town, the summer show would never be the financial success that it should be. The present site was too far out of town. There was a suitable property of 15 acres at present available for the sum of £I,OOO. The opportunity of securing this property, should be availed of. It was decided to set up a special comittee to go into the question and tho following were elected:—Messrs. T. Hunt, W. G. Somerville, S. Craig, J. AY. Coehrano and G. Hitchcock. The president’s report showed that the 3-ear’s working of the association resulted in a profit of £3B 14s 3d. Owing to the Matamata Show clashing with the local fixture, there were fewer outside entries. The committee sent forward a remit to the annual meeting of the North Island Conference of A. and P. Associations, asking that, in order to prevent clashing of dates, all proposed fixtures should be approved by the conference. The remit was not carried, but the Auckland Provincial Council had expressed approval of such a step being taken. The following officers were elected: Patron. Mr. W. Ji Broadfoot; president, Mr. J. C. Roleston; vice-president, Mr. A. J. Sutherland: treasurer and secretary, Mr. A. W. Whyte: auditor, Mr F. W. Liddell: executive committee, Messrs. O. French. I. Hunt, A. Flux. W. J. McKenzie, B. Board, W. J. Tappin and C. Harrison. After the meeting the annual reunion of members was held in the Municipal Hall.
