DISTANT VOICE

AUCKLANDER TALKS TO INVERCARGILL ANOTHER RECORD FALLS Another record has been brought tumbling down, this time by a resident of Mount Eden, who today holds the distinction of being the man who has paid for the longest telephone call in New Zealand. A few nights ago he spoke from his home to a friend in Invercargill. The call was put through shortly after 11 p.m., and within half an hour a connection was secured. The distant voice was heard clearly in spite of the intervening 1.030-odd miles, conversation being carried on more easily than on many city telephones. The previous long-distance record was from Auckland to Alexandra, in Central Otago.
