Wilson, of Hamilton, and Miss S. Burt, of Alanganui and Miss M. L. Bell, of Pongakawa! are among the guests at the Star Hotel. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED The engagement is announced of Edith, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Briggs, Thames, to Thomas Claude, of Orini, third son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bell, of Milford. At Dixieland Jolly Evening at Cabaret by the Sea Mr. Harry Neilson and the Dixieland Dance Band dispensed the brightest of dance music to an appreciative host of dancers on Saturday evening. Spring flowers added their fragrance to the cabaret and with the manyhutd frocks of the dancers presented a colourful scene. Again the Dixieland Boys entertained with their amusing acrobatic dance turn. AMONG THE DANCERS Mrs. Xoel Airey’s frock of egg-shell blue georgette was embroidered with crystal beads. Mrs. Rex Carew had on a black and gold brocaded metal cloth gown with bouffant skirt of black tulle. Mrs. J. P. O’Connor had on a chic frock of platinum tinted chiffon worn over cerise. Mrs. Mark Davis had chosen a gown of black crepe fieuri embroidered with jet. Mrs. A. E. Linbrick -wore a gown of black lace over pastel tinted chiffon. Mrs. E. J. Richardson’s frock was of citronne georgette. Mrs. J. Anderson was wearing a crystal and cherry beaded black georgette gown. Mrs. P. Colledge was wearing naples blue georgette with peacock bow of shrimp pink taffeta. Mrs. V. Ekman had on amber and gold flowered ninon. Mrs. S. Rabone had on camellia pink ring velvet and georgette. Mrs. H. Graham’s gown was of cameo pink taffeta. Of black georgette and Chantilly lace was the smart gowa worn by Mrs. K. Hall. Mrs. Stenborg had on a crystal beaded maize-gold chiffon frock. Deepest lido blue satin and gold metal lace was chosen by Mrs. Albert Neville. Mrs. R. Thomas had. chosen a black satin charmeuse gown of uneven length. Miss Molly Overton was smartly frocked in black georgette with relief of silver. Miss Bernice Galbraith (Hamilton) had chosen a frock of silver tissue and ivory georgette, with petal pointed skirt. Very becoming was the frock worn by Miss Peggy Keys of black chiffon flowered in shades of amethyst and begonia. IN CITRONNE SATIN Miss Joan Stirling's pretty .frock was of citronne souple satin with gracefully dipping panels achieving an effect of uneven length. Miss Olive Bickerton wore her pretty frilled taffeta frock of canton jade. Miss Rita Darby was wearing amber tinted georgette with relief m a deeper tC> Miss Nance Lennox wore iris mauve georgette, panelled with fine silver lace. Of ankle-length was the becoming frock of pastel tinted satin and silk net worn by Miss Ailsa Lewis. Miss Pauline McConnell had on a chic frock of copper coloured satin with beaded embroideries. Miss de Joux was wearing a gown of black georgette and lace. Miss Madelin Gaapard's gown was of moon-mist blue charmeuse, relieved with rose pink. Miss Phyllis Symons had chosen a black taffeta gown with deep hem of palest pink georgette. Miss Audrey Morrison's frock of chartreuse green chiffon was appliqued with gold. . . . . Miss Helen Gaze wore Chinese jade satin faille and chiffon. Miss L. Briasco, Napier, wore a forest green frock of polka dotted tulle. Miss Marjorie Woolley had palest pink satin beaute and tulle. Miss Suisted had on a gown of black charmeuse and tulle. Miss D. Cooke’s dainty frock was of daffodil-tinted satin, with frilled skirt of uneven length. Miss Stella Reed was in deepest cyclamen chiffon a .id tulle. Miss Isla Reed chose a leaf-green chenille embossed georgette gown. Miss Margaret Dunn’s frock was of marigold ring velvet and tulle. Miss Lola Martin xvas wearing ivory chiffon with diamente relief. Miss G. Bygate’s frock of ivory geori gette was embroidered with crystal i beads. Miss A. Richardson’s gown was of ' forget-me-not blue brocaded georgette. Miss Freda Kenny was wearing a distinctive frock in which palfn green taffeta and black lace were cleverly combined.
Miss Janet Wallace Is Surprised Bright Party at One Tree Hill A NIGHT OF GAIETY There was much fun and frolic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Wallace, One Tree Hill, on Saturday evening, when a cheery band of young people surprised Miss Janet Wallace. Miss Peggy Forde and Mr. Lynden Henton were the organisers, and everybody spent a very jolly evening. Spring flowers in attractive profusion added fragrance to the rooms and in the ballroom the decorations of streamers and balloons were very effective. The guests were received by Mrs. Wallace, who was smartly gowned in ravenswing blue georgette and lace, and Miss Janet Wallace, who wore her becoming almond green and gold gros grain taffeta frock. Miss Peggy Forde was wearing a closefitting frock of shrimp pink ring velvet with gracefully dipping skirt. AMONG THE GUESTS Mrs. Gavin Wallace had on a black taffeta and lace gown. A distinctive gown of saracen red metal lace was worn by Mrs. J. L. Kayes. Mrs. J. G. Hirst had on an uneven length frock of marigold georgette. Miss Joan Garrick-Robertson had on her chic evening suit of cherry red georgette. Miss June Donald was wearing a bouffant frock of phlox pink taffeta. Miss Gwen Kingston’s pretty frock of pompadour pink georgette achieved an uneven effect with frilled panels. Very becoming was Miss Joyce Herdman’s frock of lacquer red georgette and diamente. Miss Rona Gifford had chosen pointsettia red ring velvet, with petalled skirt dipping to one side. Deepest lido blue taffeta was worn by Miss Molly Mitchelson. Miss Marjorie Suter had on an anklelength frock of frilled sea foam green taffeta. Miss Alison Huie’s frock was of cedar rose chenille spotted net. Miss Shirley Frater wore a pretty frock of lilac taffeta and cloth of silver. Miss Tweet Macindoe’s smart gown was of platinum metal lace. Miss Helen Carfon was wearing an uneven length frock of japonica pink chiffon. Miss Winsome Airey was in her pretty coming-out frock of phlox pink satin and tulle. Miss Auderey Alison chose palest daffodil taffeta. Miss Peggy Robertson’s frock was of parma violet crepe de chine. Miss Dene Plummer Tyas distinctive in her ankle length frock of japonica pink taffeta. Black georgette relieved with silver was worn by Miss Pat Buddie. Miss Betty Buddie was in ivory satin faille, with shoulder spray of yellow flowers. Miss Marie Jones had on her frilled cyclamen taffeta gown. Miss Jean McCormick was wearing gentian blue taffeta. Miss Freda Suter’s frock was of black georgette and tulle. Miss Mary Colebrook had on black net with silver relief. Miss Bubs Suter had chosen amber ring velvet. Miss Olive Gaudin’s frock was of lime green chiffon.
JOLLY DANCE PARTY PICTURESQUE ENVIRONMENT WATTLE AND DAFFODILS A jolly party of guests from town enjoyed the hospitality of Mr. Peacock, Ihumata, Mangere, on Saturday evening. The picturesque rooms of his home were adorned with wattle, gay balloons, and Chinese lanterns, while the sunporch was brightened with twinkling lights concealed in shrubberies. Downstairs, huge fires glowed cheerily, and yellow daffodils and narcissi struck an acceptable colourful note. With dancing and old-time games, the guests were merrily diverted. Among those present were: Mrs. Cowper wore a graceful frock of patterned ninon in evesque tones. Mrs. Copley was in black, with a mauve shawl. Mrs. Mason’s frock was maize chiffon, beaded in crystal. Airs, de Graff Hunter chose a chic frock of opalescent lace, with tulle coatee to tone. Miss Margaret Rainger was wearing an oyster lace frock, draped at one side, and finished with shoulder trail. Miss Jean Lawrence had on vermilion red georgette, made with uneven hem. Miss Ailsa Howard wore a picture frock of apple green georgette. • Miss Daphne Rainger’s frock was sprigged taffeta, in shades of japonica pink. Miss Linda de Renzy was in shaded red taffeta, the skirt appliqued in french flowers. Miss Iris Hale’s frock was orchid chiffon velvet. Miss Dorothy Fenton had on pastel pink shadow lace over crepe de chine. Miss Maisie Walkley wore black lace, fashioned on picture lines. Miss Helen Seabrook's frock was guipure lace over goblin blue, sashed with with capucine taffeta. Miss Ellen Bailey was in black embroidered taffeta, the corsage relieved with pastel pink. Miss Alice Bailey wore her charming debutante frock of ivory georgette and chenille.
