PAST-PRESIDENTS’ NIGHT
DEVONPORT ORPHANS MEET Past-Presidents’ Night a.t the Devonport Orphans’ Club on Saturday saw the attendance of nine former presidents of the club, who were welcomed by the president, Mr. E. Aldridge, and past-president Mr. Frank L. Gribbin, who was in the chair. Mr. Gribbin, a foundation memb ir, told of the club’s early days, and its tribulations, seen through the softening mist of years, had many humorous aspects. The past-presidents attending were: Messrs. A. Goldwater, A. W. Tatton (both members of the club since its formation), J. Bray, J. Armstrong, R. T. Michaels, A. A. Hough and H. S. W. King. The official visitors included President C. J. Lovegrove and the members of the executive of the Tamaki Club. Mr. Lovegrove responded to the welcome to visitors. Concert items were supplied by the band, under the baton of Mr. T. de Clive Lowe, and Messrs. Farrow, S. E. Clyde, Norgrove, McMichael, Littler, W. Perry-Taylor and Moody. The president expressed the club’s regret at the death of the secretary of the Auckland Club, Mr. J. D. Crawford. His words were echoed by Mr. D. TV. McLean, a foundation member of the Devonport Club, who spoke of the ready help always given to the new clubs by the late Mr. Crawford. Next week-end the Devonport Club will pay a visit to Te Awamutu.
