“RIO RITA” SEASON

BOX PLANS OPENED There was a particularly eager demand for seats at the St. James Theatre booking office this morning, when the box plan opened for the O.S. and JD.C. seats of the first six nights of the long-awaited “Rio Rita” season. “Rio Rita” had a long and wonderfully successful run in Australia, and one Sydney critic described the show in the following glowing terms: “It is appealing in love story, bewildering in kaleidoscopic changes of colourful scenes and exquisite costumes. It resounds with haunting melodies: it has movements of dramatic intensity, sprinkled with the savour of witty, wholesome comedy, “Glorious voiced stars sparkle in the show, with Gladys Moncrieff as chief songbird. Leslie Pearce, a splendid baritone. Dave Mallen, a delightful comedian, and Janett Gilmore, amazing dancer and comedienne, all prominent in a stupendous cast which includes a wealth of beauty girls. “The dancing in ‘Ria Rita* is a revelation. Ernest C. Rolls, the producer, is to be congratulated upon ‘Rio Rita’; it is the best show yet presented in Australia.” The box plans for the first six nights of the grand circle open tomorrow morning, and plans for the remainder of the season will be announced later.
