ORCHESTRAL ITEMS
A widely varied programme of orchestral music, presented last evening in St. James Theatre by the Auckland Musicians’ Union, was largely attended. “Raymond,” the overture, was excelently played, and Schubert’s “Cradle Song.” with strings only, was another popular number. The flute and the Clarionet wer heard in an item with the orchestra. Other presentations by the orchestra were excerpts from
“Elijah,' the tone poem, “Finlandia,” and German’s “Theme and Diversions.” Mr. Colin Muston was the conductor. Mr. Barry Coney sang “The Blind Ploughman,’ Mr. C. Hayes. “Softly Awakes My Heart,” and Miss Madge Clague also sang. Master Harold Taberner gave a violin solo.
Clyde Cook, the diminutive comedian of stage and screen, is going to be dressed up for at least one picture. Recently he was signed to play an English butler role in the forthcoming Fox Movietone production, “The Masquerade.”
