The Warwick Farm spring meeting was held in fine weather. The feature of the racing was the form displayed by New horses. Entering the straight, Limerick dashed up with a brilliant run. Mollison began to tire, and Limerick, finishing lull of running against the wind, won by threequarters of a length, with Winalot the same distance off third, and Phar Lap close up fourth. Then came Parkwood, Black Duchess, Aussie, with Nedda last. Time, 1.38*. The crowd gave Limerick a great ovation, the cheering lasting tor many minutes. The enthusiastic scene will long be remembered, the New Zealand champion having accomplished the "hat trick” by winning the same event in three successive years, and on this occasion defeating Mollison, Aussie, and Winalot. Perception won by a length and a-half, a similar distance separating second and third. Time, 1.40. LITTLE STAMINA STAYING FORM AT LOW EBB Mr. Clive Inglis returned to Sydneylast week from England. Mis impressions of English horses are interesting, and he believes that Strephon’s attempt to win the best English long-distance races is being .staged at a most opportune time. "My idea,” said Mr. Inglis, "is that English staying form is at present at a lower ebb than for many years. Inversion, Brown Jack, Arctic Star and Old Orkney are the best of the older horses, and they must be nearly at the end of their tether; while of the younger division only Kopi and Walter Gay are promising as stayers. “Both were unlucky in the Derby, Kopi falling when starting to move up, and Walter Gay failing to get a run until too late. "Walter Gay’s trainer had trouble in preparing him for his spring engagements, but was hopeful the task of getting him ready for the St. Leger would be easier. (Walter Gay was scratched last month.) "If Strephon is a really good stayer, the coming year should, in the circumstances, give him a good chance of success., Overdoing Speed "England is suffering from a craze for early two-year-old racing, and sprinting by older horses. In both classes the form is excellent, and Tetratema’s stock shine. Royal Minstrel and Tiffin, the best sprinters of each sex. are by him. “The best race I saw in England was one at six furlongs at Newmarket in which Tiffin beat Royal Minstrel, half a head. They fairly lost another rood performer in Le Phare. "The difficulty of buying stallions is as great as ever, very high prices being wanted for those which have met with anv success.
