MR. W. J. PARKER’S LIFE 86TH BIRTHDAY TODAY Today Mr. "W. J. Parker, of Arney Crescent, Rcmuera, is celebrating 1 his eighty-sixth birthday. Mr. Parker has spent nearly all his life in Auckland since he was born in Swanson Street in 1543. His father was engaged in brickmaking at North - coto and Ponsonby in the early 40’s. Tales of easily-won wealth in Otago attracted Air. Parker, then apprenticed to a Mahurangi boatbuilder, and he joined ip the Gabriel’s Gully rush, with fair success. On returning to Auckland he entered partnership with Mr. Samuel Jagger, and later with Air. Prank Jagger, in coal and firewood, timber milling, tanning, woollen, and shipping businesses. Air. Parker was until a few years ago connected with the Parker-Lamb Timber Company, lie retired from active business about three years ago, after an accident. Mr. Parker has served on the Auckland Harbour Board, and Mas a member of the old Remuera Town Board.
