Y.M.C.A. BAZAAR
SIR G. RICHARDSON MAKES PLEA FOR SUPPORT A bazaar in aid of youth work, car- j ried out by the Y.M.C.A. was opened j in the Y.M.C.A. building: yesterday afternoon by Lady Richardson, who j was accompanied by Major-General Sir Georg - © Richardson. In an address. Sir George said he j and Lady Richards*) n were strong sup- j porters of the Y.M.C.A. movement, be- i cause they knew it stood for the build- ! ing up of the country’s youth, and ' prepared them for their life in the world. • The Y.M.C.A. promotes the physical. mental, social, and moral sides of the boy at the time when he most needs it—that is, during the period of adolescence,” said the speaker. Sir George, who has been intimately connected with Y.M.C.A. work, for many years in different parts of the world, expressed his surprise at the growth of the Auckland branch of the association. “While I reaiise that , Auckland business men know the value j of a Y.M.C.A. training for young men. I question whether business men in New Zealand give the movement the same support as it receives in America,” he added. The principles of honesty and integrity inculcated by the Y.M.C.A, were fully appreciated in America, and he hoped that local business men would gain a fuller realisation of the worth of a Y.M.C.A. training to young men. The bazaar was organised by the ladies* auxiliary, and the ladies helptog the voting men’s and boys’ divisions. assisted by Mr. L>. Miller. There ! many stalls and sideshows, and a musical programme of the latest gramophone records is also provided. Tast evening a gymnasium display was Siven, and the display will be repeated this afternoon and this evening, when : tk© bazaar will close. 1
