“MAD DOG!”

PANIC IN LONDON SUBWAY THREE WOMEN BITTEN A hull-terrier suddenly went mad in Streatham recently and bit three women and a child before It could be caught. The dog rushed, snapping and snarling, among a number of women in a subway under the Southern railway line near Earldley Road. There was a panic, in the middle of which Mrs. Wimble, of Hambro Road, was badly bitten. She was carried in a fainting condition into a shop near by. Two other women were bitten, and a 10-year-old boy was badly mauled. Eventually the dog was captured by Mr. Baker, of Hambro Road, who took it to the police station. Mrs. Wimble told an “Evening News” correspondent that she was going home after doing some shopping, and, while passing through the subway, saw some dogs fighting. “One of them, a big white bullterrier, suddenly sprang at me,” she said, “and I was so frightened that I jumped back. It kept coming for me and bit me badly on the leg.” Mr. Baker said he found the dog mauling the boy, who was with a little girl. Both were standing too terrified to move against a wall. “The dog had its paws on the boy’s shoulders, and was snarling and biting at hsi face,” said Mr. Baker. “I drove the dog off, and later threw a noose over its head and captured it.”
