Once, gazing in the flames I saw What seemed to me an open dour. And looking through this door 1 spied A prancing horse with man astride . . . These slowly faded from my sight. Leaving a white and brilliant light, The light died down, and in its plat o Appeared a strange and lovely face. With large, bright eyes, lit up with lov,As s<sft and gentle as a dove. The door m*on vanished into dust. The lire died down: a sudden gust Blew down the chimney, taking ash Into the whirl of its windy lash. —Dorothy White, Hamilton, aged l'». v THE COT-PLANE Wo live quite near the iccal air-;’ drome, and know all the planes by,sight, but this was the first cot-plan*~ to come to Auckland, and we had wonderful time getting ready for theflight. Eileen’s slippers were not dry, so we hung them over the side. Eileen took her best dolly, and I could not g<>, without. Teddy, as he had to take his turn at the controls. It was all very hard work to dodge so many floors, and' keep well away from the moon. He was our good friend, the lamp, and without him we would hare had many accidents with the stars. Our cot-plane left our bedroom airdrome at 7.30 p.rn., and after playing* among the stars for nine hours we bt gan to think of home, and to wonder All of a sudden Eileen pointed out some lights, and we flew toward then, They turned out to he Auckland* lights. * It took us two hours to find the bedroom airdrome, and we got in just in time to feel mother’s kiss and to hear *: her say, “Wake up. Breakfast is, ready.”
