HOME-MADE REMEDIES FOR WRINKLED SKINS
There are any number of expensive treatments * for wrinkled skins, with astringents and face-lifting, friction and massage; but a prominent skin specialist declares that these should be adopted only by actresses and mannequins! His experience has been that every woman tends to "slack off'’ in regular exercises and massage, unless she feels that her face Is actually her fortune. And it is a fact that if the treatment is not meticulously maintained the loosening reaction on the skin and facial muscles produces worse disfigurement than the original blemishes. It is safer, therefore, as well as cheaper, to adopt a home-made remedy for wrinkles. Simmer six ounces of pearl barley in two, pints of water till the gluten is extracted. Strain off the liquid and gradually add 50 drops of tincture of benzoiu, beating .till thoroughly mixed. This lotion should be dabbed ou the face after Washing, night and morning. It is most effective, and not troublesome if made in the given quantities every time. Lines on a very thin dry skin, which clearly needs nourishment, should be treated with another lotion. Put an ounce of lanolin and half an ounce each of spermaceti and White'wax in a bowl inside a pan of boiling water, and melt slowly on the fire. Remove the bowl, and add two' ounces of sweet almond oil very slowly, beating all the time. Finally, add one ounce of rose water, drop •by drop. This method, being a course of nourishment for the skin, is slower, but in three months there should be no sign of lines or dryness and no reason for them to reappear.
Wrinkles are not very common in the oily skin, hut there is a simple lotion to correct excessive oiliuess and at the same time, prevent the lines of middle-age. This is made by dropping one ounce of tincture of benzoin slowly into a quart of elderflower water and mixing well with a silver spoon.
