DISCUSSION ON BEST TYPE FAMILY MEN WANTED With a view to attracting- the type of settler mentioned in a recent speech j by Sir James Parr, mqn with capital or assured incomes, especially family men retired from active work and desiring I better prospects for their-children, the New Zealand Land Settlement and Development League is to call a conJ ference of persons interested. The decision to do this, which will deal with the juresent position of juvenile immigration with reference to the land, was made at a meeting of j the league’s executive yesterday. The i chairman. Mr. AY. J. Holdswortli, drew | attention to remarks made in the House j of Representatives on the previous day | by Mr. J. X. Massey, advocating agri- | cultural training camps for boys on i undeveloped lands, with the object not | only of giving the boys theoretical and i practicaly instruction, but of settling j them later upon the very land they had | been working. Mr. Holdsworth said that the scheme suggested by Mr. Massey was one the league had been t urging for nearly three years. He felt ! that everything possible should be done j to persuade the Government to bring down legislation at an early date, j Seeking assistance in attracting the ■ class of immigrant referred to by sir i James Parr, the league had already [ approached Mr. L. C. S. Amery and Lord Lovat.
