WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTINUE AUCKLAND B WINS Press Association ’ GISBORNE, Friday. The New Zealand women's hockey j tournament was continued today in j good weather. The grounds were in good order and there was an attendance i of about 1,000 spectators. Winners were:—Section A: Poverty Bay A, Ruahine and Southland. Section B: Canterbury, Hawke's Bay and Auckland B. In section A Ruahine defeated Bush 1 by H goals to -0. Bush held the strong i Ruahine team until half-time, when i the score was I—o. In. the second half ! Bush tired and Ruahine ran its op- ■ ponents off their feet, and notched an- ; other five goals. One goal was the i result of a rnis-hit by the Bush fullj back. Poverty Bay A defeated Auckland A by 3 goals to 2. The Poverty Bay : forwards proved too fast for Auckland. although the visiting backs were j superior. Poverty Bay caught the ■ Auckland backs napping in the first j ! half, scoring two goals in the first ten j minutes. Ten minutes before half- j I time Auckland scored, but Poverty Bay j j scored again after the interval. Auck- ( i land livened up and from a penalty Miss Lowe beat the goalkeeper after a great tussle. Auckland appeared to be troubled | by the fast grounds and only showed j flashes of true form. For Auckland ; Miss Lowe and Mrs. Harmerman were i the scorers. Mrs. Nicol and Misses | Ruru scored for Poverty Bay. Southland defeated Rotorua by 5 j ; goals to 0. Rotorua lacked scoring j forwards. The Southland players were ! j seldom out of their own half of the i j field, but each time they reached the Rotorua circle they scored, the shootj ing by Misses Mclntyre and Hislop \ being very* accurate. Miss Hislop scored three goals and Miss Mclntyre ! two. For Rotorua Miss Davidson j showed excellent defence. In section B Canterbury defeated | Wairarapa by 11 goals to 0. The losers ■ were outclassed. The scorers were Misses Schluter (5), Millicliamp (5) and j ; Parsons. | Hawke’s Bay had a hard tussle , i against Eastern Southland, but finally ran out winners by 5 goals to 2. The Southland forwards did not combine well, but played well individually. The Hawke's Bay fullbacks played spleni didly. and it was a pleasure to watch the way the forwards combined. For

Surgenor (Invercargill) was appointed. At a meeting of the Tournament ; Committee, Mr. R. Scott (Wellington) withdrew from the Xorth Island Selection Committee for the Inter-Island match.
