EARLY SETTLER’S DEATH
WIDOW OF WAITANGI TREATY WITNESS MRS. S. C. MOTION Mrs. Sarah Clarissa Motion, widow of Mr. William Motion, who was pres- j ent at the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, on which his name appears as a witness, died yesterday at the ! | age of 92 at the home of her son. Mr. ! ' Claude Motion, at Otaua, Waiuku. Mrs. Motion was a daughter of Mr. John Cowie. of the Provincial Bank of | Londonderry, Ireland. a prominent 1 resident of the city. Her husband was j one of the earliest settlers in Auckland. He came to the Bay of Islands I in 1838 and settled in Auckland two j years later. Mrs. Motion arrived later ! and they were married in 1869. For many years Mrs. Motion lived at j Western Springs, but since the death j of her husband in 1894 she had lived with her son at Waiuku. She was keenly interested iu charitable work. Mrs. Motion is survived by two sons. Mr. Claude Motion and Mr. Ivan Motion. There are three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
