The victories of Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire and Lancashire in the county cricket competition today left the championship dependent on the last-round matches. At present Nottingham has 155 points and Yorkshire and Lancashire 148 each. Nottinghamshire can only be deprived of winning if Derbyshire beats Nottinghamshire outright, and Yorkshire beats Sussex outright. Lancashire has played its last match, so it is out of the running. SOUTH AFRICANS WIN SUSSEX DEFEATED BY 217 RUNS (Australian and N.Z. Press AssociationJ (United Service) Reed. 11 a.m. LONDON, Friday. South Africa won its match against Sussex by 217 runs. Africa, in its second innings, made 290 (Mitchell, 140; Dalton, not out, 44). Parks took four wickets for 46. Sussex in its second innings made 164 runs (Cook, 41; Bow ley, 37). McMillan took five wickets for 54 and Owen-Smith two for 25.
